Proptech Awards raise $5610 for charity

The proptech community raised more than $5600 to fight homelessness with a silent auction run as part of the recent Proptech Awards 2024.

Ferocious online bidding took place on the MarketBuy platform across the evening from thto purchase an exclusive wine experience package in the McLaren Vale from Smidge Wines and, separately, an environmental offer to save a corner of tropical rain forest from new proptech startup Square By Square. All proceeds from the sale were donated to Orange Sky, a charity which provides mobile laundry and shower services to homeless Australians.

“The Proptech Association is pleased to be able to extend the goodwill generated by the Proptech Awards to a cause as deserving as Orange Sky and we were delighted to be able to raise such a great sum on the evening,” said Proptech Association vice president Peter Schravemade.

“Proptech is pretty competitive, so it was great to be able to channel rivalries towards such a worthy cause. A very big thank you to John Hellaby and the team at MarketBuy for their support in making bidding on the night possible through their app.”

Congratulations to the winners

The Smidge Wines Barrels & BBQ Experience was won by Stuart Wilmot from Urban Prospects as the highest bidder. The experience includes a one of a kind, behind the scenes and personalised barrel tasting for eight people including a wine-paired barbeque lunch hosted by the winemaker Matt Wenk.

The Square By Square Rainforest item was won by the highest bidder Josh Callaghan from Little Hinges. The prize was for one square of rainforest land on Djiru Land near Mission Beach in Tropical North Queensland which can only be used for conservation, but can be sold, gifted or kept forever to help protect native species habitat.

Best Dressed Winners

In other shenanigans, the REACH Australia cohort member and honourary proptech Theodore made the most of the fact that an industry – known mainly for its fashion sense of tshirts, jeans and sneakers – had gotten dressed up for the night by awarding best dressed prizes.

The winner of the Best Dressed Man at the Proptech Awards went to Andrew Calagiuri from FlckItOver, while the Best Dressed Woman was Katrina Bignasca from Asseti. Both won a gift voucher for custom made suits to the value of $1500.

“The Best Dressed competition was a lot of fun and demonstrated just how far the awards have gone from their original event in 2020 when many turned up in just their work outfits, to 2024 when the vibe was much more glamorous,” Peter said.

“We’re looking forward to building on these great initiatives for the awards for 2025.”
